What did I learn?
- Outsourcing Kills Innovation and Quality
- Outsourcing your core-competencies might save short-term dollars, but it often sacrifices quality and long-term success. Agencies lure you into a false sense of security, but most lack focus, ownership, and innovation. Good agencies who are invested in your success as much as theirs, is extremly rare to find. Outsourcing as a startup or small business also adds unnecessary coordination overhead on your already stretched core team. Growth requires unified teams driven by a shared mission—not fragmented efforts and misaligned incentives.
- Lack of 0 to 1 Expertise
- 0 to 1 expertise is extremely hard to find. Employees and agencies often lack the breadth of expertise & the ability to adapt, make tradeoffs, make every detail count yet limit the number of details, move at the speed of need yet execute flawlessly and without compromise, and possess the judgements to know what tradeoffs & debt is good and what aren’t.
- Conventional Wisdom Creates Decision Traps
- Common advice is often outdated or misapplied. "That's how it’s done" is a growth killer. Experienced exeuctives are the most skilled at delivering polished and persuasive responses that don't align with reality. Decision-making built on buzzwords and half-truths leads to wasteful spending and short-sighted strategies that fail to deliver sustainable results. Access to good advice is hard to find. I don't have all the answers but I can help you find the right ones. And I know a thing or two about what works and what doesn't.

- Top-Down Hiring almost always never works
- If you are an early-stage startup or a small business, your full-time high-priced C-suite hires are more likely to drain resources and inflate overhead, than deliver the traction you need. Some leaders are so disconnected from the execution that they can't do the work anymore. They need teams to do it for them. Parallelly, Big 4 Consultants have turned your challenges into a lucrative business model. One where only they win...all the way to the bank. If you are starting up, don't go top-down hiring. Start at the bottom. Hire what you need. Not what you think is cool. The employer names, years of exeprience, and titles on their resume means nothing, if they can't do the work. Early-stage success demands execution, not optics or bureaucratic titles.
- Brand marketing is useless (and expensive)
- Consumer startups and small businesses don’t build brands—they earn them. Beware the ecosystem of consultants, influencers, agencies, and self-proclaimed "brand gurus" who profit from non-ROI activities. Success (and brand equity!) comes from finding product-market fit and scaling customer traction, not from flashy selfies, logos, studying successful brands, paid/earned vanity media, or overpriced campaigns. Stay away from "brand builders", instead focus on the problem you are solving. Brand will follow.
